In the flame retardant industry, new products do not seem to come out easily.

We often receive consultations that use phosphorus-based flame retardants and the paper loses its stiffness or turns yellow. Also, aluminum hydroxide needs to be added in large quantities, so it seems that the texture of the paper is unsatisfactory.
However, adding flame retardancy to paper did not seem to be considered very positively, and no new flame retardant appeared.
That’s where the soufa sodium polyborate manufactured and sold by our company comes in.

Water-soluble, colorless, transparent, odorless, almost non-toxic to mammals, and highly toxic to insects.

It is soluble in water with a water-soluble flame retardant. The main component is boric acid, which has almost no harm to the human body.

This sodium polyborate is manufactured under the name soufa and was originally developed as a flame retardant for wood. Among them, it is known that it works well on cellulose, which is the main component of wood, and it is also attracting attention as a flame retardant for cellulosic materials such as paper and pulp.

Recently, we have been shipping some samples for cellulose nanofibers.

According to our knowledge, small amounts of phosphorous and aluminum hydroxide are more effective.
This is applied to Japanese paper, ignited after drying.

It ignited for a long time, but it did not ignite. soufa foams by heat to form a carbonized layer. Forming a coating on the surface and shutting off oxygen supply has the effect of preventing self-digestion and ignition.

This is a washi-based material with the cooperation of a manufacturer.

Although it is a thin material, it does not yellow and does not lose its stiffness.

It is attracting attention as a new flame retardant for cellulose.

We also considered it as a flame retardant for wood, so we have little knowledge of other materials.
